The city of Flin Flon in Manitoba is named after a science fiction novel character named Josiah Flintabattey Flonatin (Flinty for short). Al Capp (Lil Abner) donated his time and talent to design the 7.5m high statue which was made from fibreglass in 1962. The statue guards the entrance to the city. In 2015, Flinty beat 31 competitors to become Manitoba's favourite roadside attraction in Travel Manitoba's Roadside Madness contest.
