Participaction is a national non-profit organization, originally launched as a Canadian government program in the 1970s to promote healthy living and physical fitness. Financial cutbacks shut it down in 2001, but it was revived in 2007 with a $5 million government grant. Participaction’s Body Break segments hosted by Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod became popular on Canadian TV in the 1990s with their “keep fit and have fun” philosophy.
