Nearly 25 years in the making, The Great Trail (formerly known as the Trans Canada Trail) has over 27,000 km of multi-use trails across Canada, the longest link of trails in the world. Watch the iconic Participaction commercial aired in 1983 with the catchy “Don’t just think about it, do it, do it, do it” jingle!
Participaction is a national non-profit organization, originally launched as a Canadian government program in the 1970s to promote healthy living and physical fitness. Financial cutbacks shut it down in 2001, but it was revived in 2007 with a $5 million government grant. Participaction’s Body Break segments hosted by Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod became popular on Canadian TV in the 1990s with their “keep fit and have fun” philosophy.
