Actor Ernie Coombs was Mr Dressup on the beloved children’s TV show that aired every weekday morning for 29 years (1967 to 1996). There were more than 4,000 episodes. Mr Dressup performed songs, told stories, and taught arts, crafts and imagination games. His puppet friends were Casey (gender-neutral child) and Finnegan (a dog who only ever whispered to Casey). They lived in a tree house in Mr Dressup’s backyard. Inside Mr Dressup’s house there was the Tickle Trunk, filled with costumes used in skits to illustrate his stories. Read 8 Things We Learned from Mr Dressup and watch an episode from 1981.
