Nova Scotia (NS) is on the east coast of Canada and is one of the three Maritime provinces. It was one of the four founding provinces of the Canadian Confederation in 1867. Halifax is Nova Scotia’s capital city and also the largest city.The province's mainland is the Nova Scotia peninsula surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. Cape Breton Island, a large island to the northeast of the mainland, is also part of the province, as is Sable Island, a small island off the province's southern coast. The province of Nova Scotia has the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Northumberland Strait on the north, and the Atlantic Ocean on the south and east. It is connected to the province of New Brunswick on the west by the Chignecto Isthmus. Nova Scotia's tourism industry showcases Nova Scotia's culture. There are numerous centres and museums that tell the stories of the province's internationally renown musicians, songwriters, authors, professional sports teams and athletes. There is also a significant film industry in Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia is also known for its high tides, lobster, fish, blueberries and apples.
