The Fraser River is considered one of the top Sturgeon fishing destinations in the world and is considered to be one of the most unique fishing experiences. These prehistoric fish can reach lengths up to 12 feet long and can weigh hundreds of pounds. The Fraser River Sturgeon fishery provides consistent opportunities 12 months of the year, with peak times being in the early spring, and summer through to late fall. During the winter months there are thousands of resident Fraser River Sturgeon throughout the system. If anglers are willing to face the wintery elements the results can be very rewarding.

Fraser River Sturgeon fishing typically starts in late March into early April. in May the Fraser River receives its annual return of eulachons (bait fish) to the lower reaches of the to spawn. When these bait fish arrive, it sparks a massive feeding frenzy and angling can be fast and furious. This time of year also brings migratory sturgeon back into the river, also known as transient Sturgeon (travel from freshwater to saltwater depending on times of the year and availability of food). This is the first major feeding of the year for the Fraser River Sturgeon and with warmer water conditions the fish are full of energy. Sturgeon are known for their raw fighting power and it's common to have a fish jump clear out of the water 4-6 times in a single hookup.
The second peak time of the year is late summer through the late fall when millions of salmon return to the Fraser River and it's tributaries. On a high return year, the Fraser river will see upwards of 50 million salmon returning to spawn. After they have spawned, they all die, creating a mass food source that sturgeon to thrive on. The Fraser River Sturgeon seem to be bigger on average during these times of the year. It's not uncommon to catch several fish in the 6-8 foot range on a single day fishing charter. Most of the record Fraser River Sturgeon are caught during these times of the year which exceed the 10 foot mark. Due to massive amounts of food the sturgeon are taking in at these peak times, they put up a tremendous fight which is why they are known as one of greatest game fish in North America.
The Kamloopa Powwow in Kamloops BC

Each August the Tk'emlups Indian Band of Kamloops BC plays host to a celebration of traditional indigenous storytelling through song and dance.
The Kamloopa Powwow is the biggest event of its kind in Western Canada, with over 500 dancers and drummers. The celebration is held on the Secwepemc Pow Wow Grounds.
