The Polar Bear Conservation and Education Habitat and Heritage Village is in the northern Ontario town of Cochrane, Ontario. The polar bear pool opened in July 2004 and drew visitors for the "once-in-a-lifetime" experience of an outdoor swim with polar bears, watching through the glass as the animals gracefully move through the water. The humans are in a different pool, separated from the bears' habitat by just a layer of glass. Bulletproof, shatterproof glass that's almost 9 centimetres thick, because although they're cute, polar bears are among the world's most ferocious carnivores.

The Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat (CPBH) is the only captive bear facility in the world dedicated solely to polar bears, saving and rehabilitating orphaned polar bear cubs and mistreated polar bears in captivity. www.polarbearhabitat.ca.
