Vulcan Alberta, population under 2000, is located midway between Calgary and Lethbridge in southern Alberta. Vulcan has based its tourism industry on the fact it shares its name with the birth planet of Spock, a character played on the TV series Star Trek.
Leonard Nimoy, who played the character of Mr Spock in the series Star Trek since its debut in 1966, made his trek to Vulcan to take part in the parade, the unveiling of the bronze bust (of Mr Spock) and to leave a "live-long-and-prosper handprint".
The town has built a Star Trek-themed tourist station which provides tourist information, Star Trek memorabilia and unique photo opportunities. Visitors can also participate in the Vulcan Space Adventure virtual reality game. There is a replica of the starship Enterprise from Star Trek V and the plaque is written in Klingon. You can also find Spock's Bar and the Scrapbook Cafe, which of course only serve food and beverages with Star-Trek themed names.
Vulcan has been dubbed "Canada's Quirkiest Town."
