Attractions Prince Edward Island

If you've decided on Prince Edward Island as your next vacation, then you've made the right choice. The Confederation Bridge, which is the longest bridge in the world over ice covered waters, will bring you into Prince County. As you drive through Prince county, you will be fascinated with the deep-red potato fields and you may want to visit the Prince Edward Island Potato Museum. The area offers something for everyone. Summerside is home to the Summerside Lobster Carnival.
Visit Kings County to escape the hectic urban life. Forests, quaint fishing villages and quiet beaches. Montague is the largest town in the county and here you will find the Montague Waterfront Marina and the Garden of the Gulf Museum. There are plenty of art galleries, one-of-a-kind shops and tasty restaurants to be found in any of the picturesque villages.
Queens County, home to the capital city Charlottetown and birthplace of Confederation. History buffs will enjoy the Charlottetown Conference and Founders Hall. A must see is Avonlea Village of Anne of Green Gables. Enter a world of imagination and travel back in time and surround yourself with Prince Edward Island's favorite story, "Anne of Green Gables".
Events are pretty well non-stop from May until October. Starting with the Ceilidh at the Irish Hall begins in May, and the College of Piping hosts the annual Highland Gathering. Watch for some newer activities such as: Island Fusion in spring; Fall Flavours in September; the Jazz & Blues Festival; the Cavendish Beach Music Festival. Theatre productions abound at the Charlottetown Festival, Montgomery Theatre, and the Kings Playhouse, to mention a few.

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND is known as the birthplace of Confederation. In 1864, the provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Québec met in the Province House in Charlottetown to form the new nation.

You can relive the drama by visiting Province House and Founders' Hall, and by joining any number of tours. But archaeologists have found evidence of early Mi'kmaq settlement that dates thousands of years before the historic Charlottetown Conference. Early European settlers arrived mainly from Scotland, England and Ireland and their influence is obvious in the names found on mailboxes, the lilting accent of the people and the omnipresent Celtic music. The Island's Acadians have their roots in France and a visit to La Région Évangéline will introduce you to their tumultuous history. This blend of cultures and heritage is represented in a lively and entertaining way in the small halls across the province. Ceilidhs (a Gaelic word for party or a good time), community concerts and Acadian supper theatre are wonderful introductions to PEI cultural traditions
