The Blackfoot (actually made up of three different tribes, the Peigan, the Bloods, and the Blackfoot Proper) drove the buffalo from a grazing area in the Porcupine Hills (3 kilometres west), lined by hundreds of cairns. Then at full gallop, they drove the buffalo off the 10 metre high cliff, breaking their legs and rendering them immobile. Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home of a museum of Blackfoot culture.
